PULITZER WINNER SUES OVER NDAA
FREE SPEECH HEDGES ITS BETS:
It would be great if our prize-winning pal could pull this one off.
On December 16, 2011 a bill called "The National Defense Authorization Act" (NDAA) was passed by the US Senate.
This bill allows for anyone "alleged" to be in opposition to the US government - even US citizens and legal resident aliens - to be subjected to a military-style detention INDEFINITELY, without any right to an attorney, trial or any due process of law whatsoever.
Not surprisingly, there was a huge outcry from Americans. Even the US security establishment (FBI, CIA, etc.) spoke out against it. But then President Obama, after threatening to veto it, signed it anyway, on December 31, 2011.
So how did it pass? And more importantly, "Why did it pass?"
Perhaps some of this confusion will be cleared up when the new NDAA lawsuit by Pultizer Prize-winning journalist Chris Hedges comes to light. But will it be in time?
