THE STORY OF BOTTLED WATER

WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE:
But don't drink the bottled kind -
oh no, don't you dare!

Happy Valentine's Day, folks!

And here's a Valentine's gift for you - the modern health classic called The Story of Bottled Water.

Released on March 22, 2010 (on World Water Day), which employed the animated Story Of Stuff style to tell the story of manufactured demand - how to get Americans to buy more than half a billion bottles of water every week when it already flows from the tap.

This short subject film (running just a bit over five minutes) explores the bottled water industry's attacks on tap water, and its use of seductive, environmental-themed advertising to cover up the mountains of plastic waste it produces.

It concludes with a call to take back the tap, not only by making a personal commitment to avoid bottled water, but by supporting investments in clean, available tap water for all.

The production partners on the bottled water film included five leading sustainability groups: Corporate Accountability International, Environmental Working Group, Food & Water Watch, Pacific Institute, and Polaris Institute.

As for anyone not reading closely, nobody is saying just use plain old fluoride-laced tap water - what's being discussed here is the clean, filtered version, of course. Get whatever brand of purifier you want, according to your individual economic situation - this is not a product sales pitch.

The only pitch is for you to stay healthy and save money in the long run. Because I do want you to have a very long run!
